Maria Menounos
When she took care of her mother, suffering from Stage 4 brain cancer Maria found out she was facing a health crisis of her own. In February 2014 Menounos started experiencing troubling symptoms. In the cover report of PEOPLE Menounos, she reveals she experienced headaches and lightheadedness when she was on sets. My speech had become slow and was also having difficulties understanding the teleprompter. Menounos discovered she had a large meningioma brain tumor. A MRI confirmed the diagnosis. Menounos reached an agreement to see Dr. Keith L. Black her mother's neurosurgeon and scheduled the surgery to be performed on June 8. Menounos is now 39 years old. "He stated, 'I'm 98 percent certain it's normal, however we'll never know until you're inside,'" she says. This complex procedure took approximately seven hours and Dr. Black was capable of eliminating 99.9% of the benign cancer. According to her, Dr. Black told her that it's feasible to observe the tumor reappearing in six to seven percent of the cases. "But I'll take that chance anytime." Menounos, who was admitted to hospital for 6 days, is currently at home and spending time healing.
